Rail Operations
I designed a suite of operational interfaces for a rail operations platform, supporting the monitoring and management of day-to-day rail activities. My work included CCTV monitoring, train platform management, and employee permissions.
Designing for a new way of working
The project focused on creating a clear and efficient digital experience for operational staff adopting a new system. I worked closely with stakeholders, users, and developers throughout the process, using regular checkpoints and feedback to shape the experience and ensure the designs met both user and technical requirements.
Translating technical complexity into simple experiences
One of the biggest challenges was understanding the technical complexity behind how the rail platform operates and translating that into a clear, intuitive user experience. With staff relying on the system for critical day-to-day tasks, I had a high level of responsibility to ensure the experience was easy to understand and supported confident adoption of the new system.
I worked closely with developers to understand technical constraints and feasibility, while regularly presenting designs to a large group of stakeholders and users. Through ongoing reviews, I gathered and actioned feedback to refine the experience and ensure the final designs worked for the people using the system.
Designing with users, stakeholders and developers
This project strengthened my ability to design for complex enterprise systems where understanding the technology is just as important as understanding the user. It also gave me valuable experience working closely with developers and presenting design decisions to a large stakeholder group. Regular feedback cycles reinforced the importance of collaboration, iteration, and designing with the people who will ultimately use the product.
